MARYLIZ is an internationally renowned performance artist, composer, and coach. Her recent years as a concert organist have been devoted to composing and performing challenging new works that explore the instrument’s textures and timbres. She has studied with some of the greatest European organists: Marie-Claire Alain, Anton Heiller, Gillian Weir, and Luigi Tagliavini.
Maryliz Smith’s music has not been easily categorized, falling outside the traditional channels of performance practice. Her ability to mirror the essence and mood spanning from an individual’s interior state to a system’s internal growth pattern through musical improvisation, places her in a domain all of her own. She has written countless pieces for ensembles and solo instruments. She performs internationally as a concert organist and chamber musician. Most recently, she has written stories that are timeless about how we relate to our world, with life and death, with family and friends, in the workplace and at home.
Community is a central theme in the life of Maryliz. She is a founding member of Callanish Society, a small, grassroots, non-profit organization dedicated to improving the emotional and spiritual health of those living with cancer. Weeklong retreats and ongoing support programs are offered to develop resilience in the face of illness and loss by coming together in a process of authentic dialogue to discover what it means to heal emotionally and spiritually while living with, or dying from cancer. www.Callanish.org
